GATORADE [ASIA]

'FUEL YOU FORWARD'

Client Need

Gatorade needed a K-Pop song for their commercial across Asia. The brief called for a specific K-Pop sound that would resonate with several different countries.

Gatorade's partner Adelphoi Music got on a call with AZODi to discuss the brief. Gatorade wanted the track to be K-Pop inspired, with a bit of an edge. They suggested the music should be a fast tempo (150-160 bpm). They wanted the song written within a strict 30-second time limit, then edited to fit a 15-second time limit.

Solution

In response, AZODi followed this brief and added his own knowledge and flair, honed from producing K- Pop tracks. AZODi then incorporated feedback from Gatorade via emails and phone calls with Adelphoi and Gatorade to nail exactly what the client wanted.

As the project evolved, AZODi and the client collaborated to change the structure of the song, instrumentation and add fresh vocals to the track. (Listen to the initial result STAGE 1, on the right). Gatorade decided 150bpm was too fast. They found a new reference track and video they wanted AZODi to respond to, which inspired him to create a brand new demo with a slower tempo of 120bpm.

The client also fed back that the original K-Pop / Girl Crush ending to the track felt was too high energy to be a resolution to the commercial. Instead, they wanted something with 'pep and buzz' to end the zumba workout happening in the storyline. AZODi suggested taking the main theme, adding it to the ending and running a high-cut filter over the mix (an effect that makes the song sound muffled, like it's coming from next door) to make it feel energetic in a subtler way. Gatorade liked the idea and the way it was executed, and kept it in the final version.

The end result was a song, structure and vibe that Gatorade were happy with. The Gatorade commercial gained 37 million views on YouTube and the TV commercial was screened across the Philippines, Australia and New Zealand

'SOULFUL R&B VOCALS'

Client Need

91 Vocals needed a producer proficient in Cubase to write a song that could showcase their new vocal sample pack 'Soulful RnB Vocals'. The song and project files were to be included in the latest release of Cubase and would be available to more than 1.5 million Cubase users.

The song and project had to be accessible to all Cubase users. This meant AZODi needed to create the song only using Cubase's stock plug-ins and samples. (No third party plug-ins or samples were to be used.)

Solution

AZODi jumped on a call with 91 Vocals to discuss what their needs were and wrote the song in the RnB style, as requested by the company. He added his own creative twist and flair.

Since Cubase 13 was in beta, there were a few issues finding and installing the correct parts, such as the samples and plug-ins. This required email communication with  Steinberg, the creators of Cubase, to problem solve.

AZODi completed the song within two month. He also created an additional mix and master and delivered the project, ready to be implemented into Cubase 13.

He cultivated relationship with 91 Vocals that has led to further collaboration.

'K-POP TUTORIALS'

Client Need

Cubase needed someone proficient in Cubase and content creation (specifically music production and songwriting tutorials) to create videos for their YouTube channel with more than 100k subscribers. They wanted a creator with expert knowledge on a particular genre (in this case, K-Pop.) AZODi was commissioned to work on a YouTube series for Cubase - a "K-Pop introduction".

Solution

AZODi had a call with the Cubase's Marketing Lead and talked over a few ideas about how they could break down a tutorial into several smaller videos (10 - 15 minutes each.) AZODi suggested developing an introduction to K-Pop production, and Cubase requested a tutorial on mixing at the end of the series.

AZODi wrote a bespoke K-Pop track showcasing how to use Cubase software in the process. This formed the basis for the videos in the YouTube series, He scripted, presented, filmed and edited the entire series. Cubase was happy with the end result and commissioned AZODi to create a second YouTube series for the brand.
